Delta Sharing

Databricks and the Linux Foundation developed Delta Sharing to provide the first open source approach to data sharing across data, analytics and AI, letting customers share live data across platforms, clouds and regions with strong security and governance. Delta Sharing has since evolved into OpenSharing, a vendor-neutral protocol for securely sharing AI assets, including Agent Skills, AI models, and unstructured data.

HP Indigo Boosts Manufacturing Yield and Traceability with Databricks and Unity Catalog

HP Indigo migrated more than 3,500 data volumes (~10 terabytes) of disparate ERP, manufacturing and field data, previously tracked manually across spreadsheets and legacy systems, onto Databricks and Unity Catalog. Unity Catalog's built-in data lineage reduced consumable traceability time from two to three days down to about one hour. HP Indigo also built a prediction model on Databricks to optimize manufacturing parameters for one of its parts, increasing yield from 60% to 92%. Databricks AI/BI Genie provides natural-language, self-service data access for business users, replacing ad hoc requests to technical teams.

A Journey Towards Unified Data Governance at bp

bp implemented Databricks Unity Catalog to unify data governance across data previously spread across disparate systems, migrating over 270 Databricks workspaces from two separate data hub platforms and 15 standalone instances, serving 10,000+ users across Finance ERP, Customer and Products, Production and Operations, and Enterprise business entities. The migration, run in four phased quarters, delivered centralized governance, granular row/column-level access control, and automated column-level data lineage and audit logs. bp expects the consolidation to save nearly $1 million annually plus roughly $4,000 weekly by eliminating manual Overwatch job management, and the migration unlocked Delta Sharing, SQL Serverless Warehouses, and further AI features like model serving and fine-tuning.

NOL UNIVERSE builds unified data lakehouse with Databricks, cutting batch computing costs by 77%

NOL UNIVERSE, a Korean travel, leisure, and culture platform operating the NOL, NOL Interpark Tours, and NOL Tickets brands, migrated approximately 2,500 Hive-based queries and its Apache Airflow/NiFi pipelines to the Databricks Platform, consolidating disparate BI tools into a single environment and giving each business domain a self-service analytics environment governed by Unity Catalog. The customer service team also used Databricks machine learning to automate categorization of CS consultation history. The migration was completed in two months, reducing time to complete batch aggregation by 66%, decreasing batch computing costs by 77%, and increasing data availability time by 27%.

TK Elevator: Moving Beyond with Data + AI Driven Service Intelligence

TK Elevator (TKE), one of the world's largest providers of elevators, escalators and vertical transportation systems, adopted the Databricks Platform to unify and process more than 500 million IoT telemetry events daily from connected elevators across 30+ countries, moving from reactive to predictive maintenance. TKE's MAX platform generates predictive insights that feed actionable guidance to field technicians via its Digital Operations Center (DOC), which generates 30,000-40,000 tickets annually and has reduced technician troubleshooting time on call-backs and unplanned shutdowns by up to 20%. The platform scaled from 3 to over 40 markets (10x expansion), cut data pipeline delivery from months to weeks, and reduced data sharing time with internal/external consumers from three months to three days (90% reduction). TKE uses Delta Lake, Delta Sharing, Lakeflow, Unity Catalog, Databricks Assistant, MLflow, AI Gateway, Vector Search and Model Serving, and is exploring agentic AI to combine technical, service and commercial context in real time.
