The challenge
Natura's data was spread across multiple warehouses and tools (Redshift, SAS, BigQuery), siloed by country, department and team preference, leaving the company without a full picture of its data and unable to govern it at scale.
The solution
Natura standardized on Databricks and Unity Catalog as the foundation of its data strategy after a six-month proof of concept, using Unity Catalog's lineage feature to gain visibility into how data was being used, consolidating systems (SAP ERP, Salesforce CRM, e-commerce, app data) onto the platform, and adopting a federated hub-and-spoke governance model where a central data team sets rules and policies and business units build their own products within those guardrails. AI/BI Genie lets Natura's engineers query data in natural language.
Reported business value
Natura now supports more than 200 initiatives on Databricks, governs 178 data products across 19 onboarded domains, and has almost 3,000 tables sourced from more than 170 systems used by 1,100 users monthly. CRM initiatives built on the governed data now generate 8% of Natura's revenue, and real-time monitoring on Black Friday 2025 contributed to what the company called its best Black Friday of all time.
