The challenge

Decades of global growth left each Volkswagen Group brand with its own customer systems, leaving teams with fragmented data and no shared view of the customer. A salesperson at a dealership might not know a returning customer's vehicle history, website behavior, or service history, and service advisors without a unified view of customer and vehicle data could see even simple inquiries become time-consuming, slowing calls and extending wait times — risking brand reputation if the marketing, sales, and service experience wasn't addressed.

The solution

Volkswagen Group built a unified CRM approach on Salesforce's Headless 360 platform, implementing Marketing Cloud, Sales Cloud, Service Cloud, Data 360, Tableau, and MuleSoft as one standard tech stack across Audi, Volkswagen, Volkswagen Commercial Vehicles, SEAT/CUPRA, and Škoda. Data 360 is being implemented to establish a unified Customer-360 profile that harmonizes customer and vehicle data from siloed legacy systems, manufacturers, importers, dealers, and regional Salesforce instances via zero-copy architecture. Volkswagen Group's next planned step is Agentforce, the agentic layer of the Salesforce Platform: the company aims to have Agentforce personalize interactions along the customer journey and plans to use it to streamline service, such as passing warranty inquiries to human reps with a conversation summary, governed by the Einstein Trust Layer, which masks sensitive data and ensures none of the data used for each query is retained.
