Description

NHS Grampian's GRACE Project deployed Annalise CXR AI software, which scans chest x-ray images for more than 120 potential issues, to prioritize urgent-suspected-cancer cases for radiologist review across 13 sites, the first use of the algorithm by a UK health board. All images are still manually assessed by radiologists, with AI flagging images that may show signs of lung cancer for more urgent review. The project is finding 12% more treatable cancers and getting 95% of patients through to treatment 30 days faster, even as urgent cancer referrals rose about 50% over five years. NHS Grampian reviews about 70,000 chest x-rays a year, catching roughly 300 previously unknown lung cancers.
